Cynthia Bates-Twining, Assistant Director / Private Voice Teacher


Cynthia Bates Twining, assistant director and private voice teacher,  has been teaching and performing in the west Michigan area for about 44 years now. After receiving her Bachelor of Music degree from Hope College and some post grad work at WMU, she began her teaching career in the Lansing area. Discovering that her heart belonged back here in Muskegon, she returned home to teach and perform. In her 44-year career, she has taught music to grades kindergarten through college, and voice lessons to teenagers and adults.  She has sung solo performances in oratorios such as The Messiah and Creation with groups such as the Camerata Singers and Whitehall Community Choir, and solos in performances with West Michigan Symphony. Theater is a passion, and some of her favorite roles include the Witch in Into the Woods, Marion in The Music Man, and Guenevere in Camelot. She spent over 15 seasons as a professional actress in various theater companies in the West Michigan area, including Western Michigan’s Cherry County Playhouse, where she worked with professionals like Broadway George Hearn ( Sweeny Todd) and TV actor Jamie Farr (of Mash fame) . She still sings and performs with local choirs and theater groups. Cynthia is married to Clark, and has 5 children and little grandson!
